About Us

Clinical_Senates_Map.pngWelcome to the two Clinical Senates for the North West of England:

  • The Cheshire and Merseyside Clinical Senate
  • The Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria Clinical Senate.

Overall there are 12 Clinical Senates across England (see location map, right). The Clinical Senates bring together expertise from across care systems to promote improvements in the quality of services, providing leadership, advice and supporting assurance.

Each Clinical Senate is made up of an independent group of health and care staff who provide strategic clinical advice and guidance for commissioners and other stakeholders responsible for or involved with the provision of health and social care.

Purpose

Our purpose is to help Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Health and Wellbeing Boards (HWBs) and the NHS Commissioning Board to make the best decisions about healthcare for the populations they represent by providing advice and leadership at a strategic level.

Structure

Each Clinical Senate has a core Clinical Senate Council and a wider Clinical Senate Assembly, managed by our Senate Support Team.
