Introducing the members of the Greater Manchester, Lancashire & South Cumbria Senate Council

Donal_ODonoghue.jpgDonal O’Donoghue, Consultant Renal Physician

Professor O’Donoghue is Chair of the Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria Clinical Senate.

He has been a ConsultantRenalPhysician at Salford Royal since 1992 and is also Professor ofRenalMedicine at the University of Manchester. He was inaugural President of the multi-professional BritishRenalSociety.

Donal became the first National Clinical Director of Kidney Care at the Department of Health from 2007–2013. He is currently President of the Renal Association, Chair of the British Kidney Patients Association and leads the International Society of Nephrology Lancet Kidney Campaign.

He is a practising kidney doctor, active researcher and in addition to his work for people with kidney disease is Medical Director of the Greater Manchester AHSN, and a Governing Body Member of Liverpool CCG.

Ivan_Benett_pic.jpgDr Ivan Benett, General Practitioner

Dr Ivan Benett has been a GP in Central Manchester for 30 years, and with a Special Interest in cardiology for a decade. He is now a Non-executive Director at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is also standing member of a NICE Quality Standards Group & Expert Topic member of the Guideline Update Group and a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of GPs and of Physicians. 

He has held various educational posts and been PCG Chair and then Chair of the PCT professional executive committee until 2005. Following this he gained a postgraduate diploma in Cardiology. He was previously Clinical Director for Central Manchester CCG and has been on the NICE guideline development groups for several conditions including Post-MI, Chest pain and CKD, as well as the NICE topic expert group for Quality Standards in Cardiovascular Disease, Heart Failure and CKD care. He is currently on the NICE AAA, Diabetes prevention and Diabetes management guideline update committees.

Claire_Maguire_Pic.pngClaire Maguire, Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Psychotherapist

Claire is clinical and professional lead for psychological therapies at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.

She is also Trust lead for Schwartz Rounds and mentor for North West Schwartz Rounds, as well as Strategic Lead for Greater Manchester Military Veterans MH service.

Her clinical areas of interest are Mental health, Psychological Trauma and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.


Graham_Spratt_pic.jpgDr Graham Spratt, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Professional Lead for Psychological Therapies

Dr Graham Spratt works at the North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS FT (Formerly Five Boroughs Partnership) as Professional Lead for Psychological Therapies, providing clinical support to Wigan primary care and a Lead Psychologist role to Warrington. He is also Acting Clinical Lead for Service Transformation, focusing on Home Treatment / Inpatient care and access to Psychological Therapies.

He previously acted as Programme Lead and Clinical Advisor for Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) North West – facilitating the implementation of local IAPT services and overseeing workforce development and clinical standards.
