End of Life Care case study - Kate Gratwick

Kate_Gratwick_for_website_article.jpgKate Gratwick is a staunch member of the People’s Voice for the Palliative and End of Life Care Network. As a former nurse and latterly a care home manager, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to support and shape our work around Palliative and End of Life Care.

Kate initially chose to join our PEoLC Network Primary and Community Care Sub Group, one of our smaller groups. Growing in confidence as her voice was heard, she later spoke at a Patient and Public Involvement event, inspiring others about the benefits People’s Voice membership can bring.

In 2015 she helped organise our Care Home Summit which attracted a wide range of stakeholders and provided vital insight to inform the development of our strategy for improving end of life care within care homes and reducing inappropriate hospital admissions.

Moving forward, and as a member of the PEoLC Network People’s Voice Sub Group, she will be involved in analysing the findings of a bereavement survey, commissioned by the network and completed by carers. The results will help develop a network wide approach to supporting the needs of future carers of people approaching end of life.

With the support of the network and as she has become involved with more sub-groups, Kate’s confidence, passion and inspiration have grown from strength to strength and she continues to be a valuable member of the network team.

“I really enjoy being a member of the People's Voice and contributing to important projects which are transforming end of life care. It’s a great way to meet other people and use my knowledge and experience to make a difference, and I always feel supported and valued for my contribution.
