The North West Coast SCN is pleased to be able to offer free places on this two day training course that will equip all midwives involved in early pregnancy assessment (booking) with the knowledge and skills to identify women at high risk of developing a serious mental health problem.

Day 1 provides background information about perinatal mental health, recognition and management, and the impact of parental mental health on the infant and beyond.  Day 2 provides an understanding of how important attachment is in the infant’s development, attachment and brain development, types of attachment patterns/behaviours, the impact of separation and loss, how attachment goes wrong and the significance & impact of ‘Ghosts in the Nursery’ on parent-infant attachment.

Course dates, venues and trainers

The course is being run across the North West Coast between June 2017 and January 2018.  During this six month period the course will be run 10 times at a variety of locations throughout the region.

The courses are being delivered by local clinicians already working to support women with perinatal mental health needs. Presenters include Specialist Health Visitors, Public Health Midwives, Consultant Clinical Psychologists and Specialist Perinatal Midwives.
