Donal O’Donoghue OBE, Consultant Renal Physician

Professor O’Donoghue is Chair of the Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria Clinical Senate.

He has been a Consultant Renal Physician at Salford Royal since 1992 and is also Professor of Renal Medicine at the University of Manchester. He was inaugural President of the multi-professional British Renal Society.

Donal became the first National Clinical Director of Kidney Care at the Department of Health from 2007–2013. He is currently President of the Renal Association, Chair of the British Kidney Patients Association and leads the International Society of Nephrology Lancet Kidney Campaign. He is a practising kidney doctor, active researcher and in addition to his work for people with kidney disease is Medical Director of the Greater Manchester AHSN, and a Governing Body Member of Liverpool CCG.

Jan started her career as an Accountant in industry and joined the NHS in 1993, since then she has held senior positions in Finance and General Management in primary and secondary care as well as SHA level. In addition she has sat on a number of national working groups and has presented her work both nationally and internationally.

Jan has spent since 2002 working within the network environment firstly in Cardiac and Stroke.  Jan was appointed Director of Clinical Networks in April 2011 the role encompassed Cancer, Cardiac, Stroke, Neurosciences, Kidney Care, Critical Care and Neo-natal care Networks. Subsequently she was appointed as Associate Director for Strategic Clinical Networks and Senates for Cheshire and Merseyside in 2012 and her remit extended to include, Lancashire and South Cumbria in April 16.  Jan has an MSc from Manchester Business School. She is currently undertaking her Doctorate.  

                                                                                                                                                                                                               Dr GrahGraham_Spratt_pic.jpgam Spratt, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Professional Lead for Psychological Therapies

Dr Graham Spratt works at the North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS FT (Formerly Five Boroughs Partnership) as Professional Lead for Psychological Therapies, providing clinical support to Wigan primary care and a Lead Psychologist role to Warrington. He is also Acting Clinical Lead for Service Transformation, focusing on Home Treatment / Inpatient care and access to Psychological Therapies.

He previously acted as Programme Lead and Clinical Advisor for Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) North West – facilitating the implementation of local IAPT services and overseeing workforce development and clinical standards.

Martin_Hogg.jpgDr Martin Hogg, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Lead for Breast Cancer

Dr Martin Hogg is a clinical oncologist based at the Rosemere Cancer Centre, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has sub speciality interests in breast and Gynae malignancy and utilises radiotherapy and chemotherapy in the non surgical treatment of those cancers.

He is co-lead for research in breast cancer in the North West Coastal research network (the northern part) working with Professor Carlo Palmieri who leads in the Mersey and South Cheshire area. He is also a member of the Faculty Board of the Royal College of Radiologists for Clinical Oncology.

At Rosemere he has served as Chair for the Breast NSSG and is currently Clinical Director. He has a very clear motivation to deliver care to patients as individuals, with a focus on the impact of the disease and treatment on both them and their family. 

Jaydeep_Sarma.jpgJaydeep Sarma, Consultant Cardiologist

Jaydeep Sarma is Consultant Cardiologist at the North West Heart Centre, University Hospitals of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also clinical governance lead for Cardiology.

His clinical areas of interest are coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction and cardiac valve disease. Jaydeep has written publications in basic and clinical science related to coronary artery disease.

Dr Robert Coward, Consultant Physician and Nephrologist

Dr Robert Coward has been a consultant Physician and Nephrologist at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for 30 years. He is a CQC Specialist Advisor with strong educational and workforce credentials. He was Head of School for medical specialties for the North Western Deanery and subsequently Health Education England North West. He is a College and University examiner.

Dr Coward has been a Regional Advisor, Elected Councillor, and national SpR Officer for the Royal College of Physicians. He has been Network Clinical lead for Renal Services and Member of the regional ACCEA committee and at Trust level he has been a Clinical director, and Audit lead. Professionally He is a Distinguished Fellow of the European Renal Association. 

Phil_McEvoy.pngPhil McEvoy, Managing Director Six Degrees Social Enterprise CIC

Phil is the Managing Director of Six Degrees Social Enterprise, a Community Interest Company based in Salford that is dedicated to supporting people with mental health problems. He is also a member of INTERDEM research network and a Trustee of the Transform Research Alliance.

A self confessed research geek, his main research interest is the development of communication skills training for the carers of people with dementia. Phil has a number of publications to his credit.  

Helen HHelen_Hurst.jpgurst, Consultant Nurse

Helen's current role is as Consultant Nurse for older people and frailty within CMFT, based at Trafford General Hospital which is a joint clinical academic position with Manchester University.

Helen currently holds a post -doctoral research fellow position with CLAHRC. She has worked across secondary and community care service and has extensive experience in renal medicine and is the current Vice President of British Renal Society for Education. Helen is a non-executive board member Hope Citadel Community Provider (six GP practice and, a member of NICE expert group (and has been part of NICE guideline development), an expert reviewer NHS ombudsman, an associate of North West Research and Development, and a Clinical Lead of Renal Course Manchester University. Helen's clinical interests are nursing, renal medicine and  care of older people. She is a Member of International Society Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) nursing and education committee.

Vats Patel, Community Pharmacist

Vats graduated from the University of Sunderland with a degree in Pharmacy followed by an MBA from the University of Manchester. She has worked in Community Pharmacy since 1994 and in 1995 she joined the Medical Information Department at Janssen-Cilag Limited. In 2000 Vats moved into Sales Management there specialising in female healthcare, gastroenterology and old age psychiatry. From 2002 she worked predominantly in mental health managing multi-matrix stakeholder environments. In 2009 she left to work full time in Community Pharmacy.

As a member of the Manchester Local Pharmaceutical Committee during 2014 to 2016, Vats used her experience to promote an integrated and efficient primary care health service and optimise healthcare pathways through integration of Health Care Professionals. Vats is also a member of the GPhC and RPS.

Niall Lynch, Consultant Clinical Radiologist

Consultant Clinical Radiologist in Stepping Hill Hospital Stockport. Primary medical degree obtained in Dublin where he then trained in Radiology and obtained his fellowships. He joined the Manchester Senior Registrar scheme in 1993 and was appointed as a Consultant in 1996. He was the Clinical Director of Radiology in Stockport for 3 years and is urrently the Royal College of Radiology representative for the North West Region. Hi is a member of the  Local Negotiating Committee in Stepping Hill and the Radiation Protection Advisor to the Hospital.

Clinical interests include Uroradiology and interventional radiology. He has an interest in developing and providing imaging solutions which are logical, robust and safe.

Gareth Wallis, GP Director at Greater Preston CCG

After initially training in orthopaedics, Gareth moved to primary care in 2008.  He is a member of Central Lancashire Local Medical Committee, a GP trainer and works at a practice in Preston.

He has an interest in evidence based commissioning and provides clinical input to the design of elective care services in his CCG role.  He is also involved in the Health Foundation’s Q Community, which provides support for innovation and quality improvement in healthcare.
