23rd July 2018

PMH_champions_with_certificates.pngLast October our Maternity and Perinatal Mental Health network facilitated a valuable training opportunity for 20 Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) practitioners in Lancashire and South Cumbria – to complete the Institute of Health Visiting (iHV) Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Champions training.

After completing the training, the practitioners became link Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Champions in their localities and also went on to train multi-agency professionals who are caring for women, their partners and families in the perinatal period. The champions’ work is making an important contribution to improving equity of care and outcomes for expectant and new mums and their families.

In June 2018, our network was able to facilitate a further 20 professionals to undertake the two-day training course. Those completing the training included specialist mental health midwives, community mental health nurses, perinatal mental health outreach nurses, health visitors and IAPT practitioners.

Across Lancashire & South Cumbria there are now 40 iHV Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Champions. We are delighted to have worked with our partners to make this training possible, so supporting the goal of having a highly skilled and confident perinatal mental health workforce. Congratulations to everyone who completed the course, pictured here celebrating their achievements!
