Healthier Fleetwood wins NHS70 award for the North of England

18th May 2018

NHS70_banner.pngCongratulations to Healthier Fleetwood, who have been chosen as regional champions in a prestigious competition to mark the NHS’s 70th birthday.

Healthier Fleetwood is an initiative helping people to improve their lifestyles and will now go forward to the national finals, to be held at the Palace of Westminster in July, along with other regional winners from across England.

The NHS70 Parliamentary Awards were launched in February 2018 to recognise the massive contribution made by the individuals who work in and alongside the NHS. MPs nominate the teams and individuals who, in their opinion, have made the biggest improvements to health services in their constituencies.

Healthier Fleetwood was put forward by Cat Smith, MP for Fleetwood & Lancaster in the Healthier Communities category who said the initiative was: “… an amazing initiative … (whose) aim was to bring together all parties in our community to share, promote and develop schemes and ideas to aid residents’ health and wellbeing.”

The initiative encourages the people of Fleetwood to proactively take control of their own lives and health, such as: young people getting involved in sport; older people taking part in social prescribing activities such as choir practice; and also supports recovering addicts.
