Macmillan’s World Biggest Coffee Morning

16th October 2018

Death_by_chocolate_pic.jpgSCN and Innovation Agency colleagues came together at Vanguard House on 28th September for a joint coffee morning in aid of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Everyone was spoilt for choice with all the generous donations of cakes and together we raised £150 in support of this very worthy cause.

Macmillan has seen overwhelming support for this fantastic fundraiser, since it first launched back in 1990. This year was no different, with funds still coming in from the many coffee mornings held across the UK and Macmillan expecting to raise more than £27 million which will be used to support people living with cancer and their loved ones.

At our coffee morning we also took the opportunity to raise awareness amongst colleagues of NHS Cancer screening programmes for breast, Cancer_leaflets.jpgbowel and cervical cancers. While enjoying cake and a cuppa, we read and discussed information leaflets about signs, symptoms and ways to reduce the risk of cancer.

2.5 million people are currently living with cancer in the UK, 400,000 more than just five years ago. Cancer Alliances across the country are working together to deliver the ambitions in England’s five year cancer strategy ‘Achieving World Class Outcomes: A Strategy for England 2015-20’, including:

  • Preventing cancer
  • Encouraging people to present earlier with symptoms
  • Achieving a faster cancer diagnosis
  • Supporting patients with a cancer diagnosis through their treatment and into recovery through the Living with and Beyond Cancer programme.
