Perinatal Mental Health Strategy 2018-2021

21st November 2018

NWC_PMH_Strategy_pic.fw.pngThe SCN’s Perinatal Mental Health Network is pleased to announce the publication of our Perinatal Mental Health Strategy 2018 – 2021, developed in collaboration with our partners across the North West Coast.

In the North West Coast up to 25% of perinatal women will experience difficulties with their mental health. Suicide is a leading cause of death for women during the perinatal period. These challenges can have a powerful impact on mum and family, and potential life-long consequences for baby.

The strategy outlines our shared vision for effective, well-integrated perinatal mental health care pathways, with parents and infants at their heart. This includes:

  • Family Focussed Commissioning
  • Primary care (physical health, mental health and social)
  • Family and community support
  • Secondary care (physical health, mental health and social)
