Transforming Diabetes treatment, care and prevention

19th November 2018

Diabetes_event_deles.jpgOver 80 delegates attended our North West Coast Diabetes Treatment, Care and Prevention event on 5th November in Haydock. Hosted by the SCN’s Diabetes team, the event attracted a wide mix of delegates including patients, clinicians, carers, commissioners, third sector representatives and the diabetes national and regional teams.

At the event, participants heard about a variety of local improvement projects which included: prevention - the patients’ story, footcare, specialist nurse improvements, treatment targets, structured education and the national perspective.

In the afternoon a very energetic audience created the agenda to focus discussions, pledges and actions to improve specific areas of diabetes care. These afternoon discussions generated over 16 detailed discussions examples including mental health improvement, care home education, care bundles for targeted groups, improving engagement with third sector, gestational diabetes, education for professionals, dietary interventions and podiatry.

As a follow-up, the SCN will now align and translate elements of this work into ongoing improvement projects.
